Recent discoveries on how to overcome addiction

 It has been said that addiction is an incurable, recurring illness, similar to diabetes or hypertension, and that chances of recovery were about the same.

This flies right in the face of good sense. I never saw a person order a glass of high blood pressure. No one chooses to have a case of

To drink is a choice. To use drugs such as heroin or meth is a decision. While recovery from these potentially deadly ailments has many similarities, the causes do not. A person can make a conscious decision to stop abusing drugs or alcohol and succeed in becoming drug-free for the rest of their lives, even though it may require the assistance of trained professionals.
It is true that relapse to drugs is not uncommon, but relapse is NOT a normal part of recovery. Every day spent without drugs is a victory shows that recovery has stopped and that continuing efforts need to be stepped up
